So I named this blog a little less than a year ago on October 22, 2010 as a newly minted married lady. Funny how life works that way. Sometimes we aren't ready for new undertakings, new people in our lives or steps that need to be taken. Thankfully, I just came off of a whirlwind weekend. It was one of those moments in life where nothing could go wrong. Heaven sent! I trust in the universe to provide what we need most when we need it and this weekend was a perfect example of that. So with fresh wind in my sails I decided to finally start this blog. All these new agey, "The Secret" via Oprah-esque, Eat, Pray, Love buzz words make me sound like some hippy dippy Pollyanna, but don't be fooled. I do love a good dose of b****ness but if it's not served up along with some love and light, you end up being a dried up old ball of bitterness. Not cute. I'm not the most tech savvy gal so Steve Jobs and the tech gods be with me through this process.
After the jump, there's an outline of this epiphany weekend, if you care to read.
My intentions for this blog are:
1.) To celebrate the beautiful things in my life that make me happy
2.) To track my creative adventures in cooking, fashion, home decorating and party planning. In short to create a fierce personal style and attitude.
3.) To track my inspiration by and appreciation for others' style and attitudes
4.) To reflect on how these projects affect my life and further my goal to create the life I desire.
With hard work and inspiration I hope to live fearlessly and have a fabulous time! Everyone has messy moments, especially me, and I never want to stop learning or trying my best to be my best self. This is my journey from bumble to queen bee.
Weekend lowdown:
Exhibit A: On Friday after over a week of vacation at home I was lucky enough to go out with my long time great friend Margarita and her friend, now my friend, Noel. (Even though I'm a travel bug, buying a home in February really made us rethink how we spend cash. So while I'm saving up for the next big trip I plan to focus on home :)) During the course of the night we went to her DJ friend's birthday and listened to some fantastic local talent including the birthday boy himself!
A number of factors made this night possible including: Margarita's angel of a son going to bed in a timely manner and her lovely mother for watching him so she got a much deserved night out, our schedules matched up ( a small miracle these days), Noel was freshly single, deftly applied makeup, accessories and a dash of social lubricant ;) When you feel you look good you feel good and on top of that I had the very best company.
What set this night apart was that I was struck by how the universe puts people in your life at exactly the right time. Margarita had tried to introduce me to Noel a few years ago at her birthday party. He wasn't able to go. We eventually met at her family events but we hadn't been able to really go out together. All I knew is that I liked him immediately. Friday night was OUR night! We danced and laughed together as if we had known each other for years.
While I enjoyed connecting with a new friend, the night allowed me to reconnect with my looooong time friend Margarita and appreciate what a tremendous person she is. Most of our recent times we've gotten together it has been with her son, my "nephew", and although it's wonderful it was so nice to do some adult activities and let loose. Being the awesome mom she is, she rarely gets a break so I really appreciate when we can hang out like old times. It's like we're eleven again...with cocktails!
Exhibit B:
On Saturday I had planned to have some coworkers over for brunch and then go out later with my good friend Ashley. The coworker brunch fell through so I asked Ashley over for brunch. Over mimosas and eggs benedict we had the best conversation. We kept it light and mostly full of laughs but we also talked about how we have changed over the years and certain things we regret that we could never imagine doing today. It's amazing to me that although we are such different people from just a few years ago but we're still able to connect. I have known her for years but recently we've gotten so much closer. We had a family dinner with Mr. Bumblebright, my huzbee.
That night we went dancing and all along I kept thinking "Could this be any better?"
Exhibit C:
It did get better! On Sunday night, Mr. Bumblebright and I made a delicious dinner at home together and had one of those wonderful long dinners where you talk about anything and everything. Topics included: a debate over whether or not there was a Filipino member of the 1960s band The Association, how much of a godamn boss Jack Horner the paleontologist is and how Mr. BB was my one and only real bf thank goodness because I don't think I could have handled another relationship and I don't think any other guy could handle me. Nine years on and he still makes me laugh like no one else and still surprises me.
We finished the night going over old pictures making me nostalgic and somewhat blubbery. That inspired me to write a mushy gushy email to 5 of my best longtime friends Steve, Andrea, Margarita, Cynthia and Ingrid.
And there it is, my glorious epiphany weekend :)
